Ribbon drawing - Draw/Paint I
Students create a direct observational drawing that uses a paper ribbon as the main subject. The concepts of "sighting" and proportion are reinforced as they create their outlines from a paper ribbon sculpture they create; simply forming a word, name or non-objective design from a long strip of thin paper. Students are taught how to properly shade and blend as they build up value contrast using pencil, charcoal or Prismacolor pencil. Students may work on white, grey or black paper. The elements and principles of line, shape, value, contrast, space, repetition, balance, and unity are utilized.
