Project 2: Coil pots Students in Ceramics I are currently completing a piece incorporating the Coil method of construction. They are actually building an "exposed" coil pot with at least 50% of the coils revealed...most of the sealing occurs on the inside to the piece so the coils themselves serve as part of the surface treatment. Ceramics II and III students are demonstrating their mastery of the coil building method by creating individual and unique pieces. They may have both functional and decorative aspects to their pieces but the coils do not have to be exposed. Many of the students are approaching the assignment as a sculptural piece. Project 1: Ceramic Pods
Students have been hard at work the first month of school. Students in each of the three levels began the year working with the pinch method of construction and created decorative and/or functional ceramic pods. Some students incorporated small clay beads in their pieces to create a percussive effect. An emphasis on incised pattern and texture was stressed.. Students demonstrated their mastery of score, slip and seal along with proper craftsmanship and care.
