AP Studio Art is an advanced college level course designed for students who want to further develop mastery in their art making skills with an emphasis on concept, composition, and execution of their ideas. Students should have taken Visual Arts: Comp I and Drawing/Painting I as prerequisites. AP Studio Art is not based on a written exam; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year. Portfolios consist of three sections: Breadth, Concentration and Quality.
Obstacles cannot crush me. Every obstacle yields to stern resolve. He who is fixed on a star does not change his mind. ~ da Vinci

BreadthFor the Breadth section of the AP® Studio Art portfolio, students submit a variety of works that demonstrate their mastery of drawing, or their understanding of principles of two- or three-dimensional design. This section is presented as 12 images.

Concentration
The Concentration section shows the student's in-depth exploration of a particular design concept. It is presented as 12 images, some of which may be details of works. The stress is on a coherent idea and development of the work, in addition to the artistic success of the work.

Quality The Quality section promotes the development of a sense of excellence in art. For this section, students submit five works that best demonstrate a level of mastery.
